{"id":738,"date":"2018-11-26T18:35:34","date_gmt":"2018-11-26T18:35:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rishikeshvinyasayogaschool.com\/?p=738"},"modified":"2026-02-05T09:07:44","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T09:07:44","slug":"yoga-glossary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rishikeshvinyasayogaschool.com\/blog\/yoga-glossary\/","title":{"rendered":"Yoga Glossary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Asanas<\/strong>: Physical postures of yoga.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mantra<\/strong>: Sounds, syllables, words or groups of words that are repeated with the goal of creating a positive transformation; a sacred thought or prayer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guru<\/strong>: Teacher or master; one who illuminates the darkness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hatha Yoga<\/strong>: From \u201cha\u201d (sun) and \u201cthat\u201d (moon), hatha yoga seeks to unify opposites \u2013 body and mind, and describes any of the physical practices of yoga.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mudra<\/strong>: Hand positions that have an influence on the energetic or feeling body.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Namaste<\/strong>: Commonly said at the end of a yoga class by the instructor and the students that honor one soul to another.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meditation<\/strong>: The process of opening to and becoming friends with our human experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pranayama<\/strong>: Breath awareness to facilitate inner stillness and awareness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Props<\/strong>: Mats, blocks, bolsters, and straps used to extend the range of motion and facilitate ease in a pose.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Savasana<\/strong>: Final relaxation; literally translated as \u201ccorpse pose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>OM<\/strong>: Considered to be the first sound of creation. OM is frequently chanted before, after and\/or during yoga classes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yoga<\/strong>: From the Sanskrit \u201cyug\u201d (yoke), means \u201cunion\u201d.
