Attendees have reflected on the pros and cons of practicing in a large-scale setting, such as a festival. Positive aspects include:<\/p>\n<p>Practicing outdoors in a majestic setting<\/p>\n<p>Increased energy from like-minded co-participants<\/p>\n<p>Opportunities to learn from many instructors and try new styles<\/p>\n<p>Escape from routine, with the time to practice for an entire weekend<\/p>\n<p>Making new friends and socializing<\/p>\n<p>The idea of a Yoga festival is not without shortcomings, though; and critics deride such problems as:<\/p>\n<p>Commercialization and the opportunity for organizers to charge high prices<\/p>\n<p>Emphasis on &#8216;trendy&#8217; Yoga styles, rather than solid practice<\/p>\n<p>Internal clarity is replaced by a party-like atmosphere<\/p>\n<p>Impact on the environment<\/p>\n<p>Festivals try to respond to these issues by donating proceeds to nonprofits, offsetting carbon loads, and emphasizing recycling and zero impact. Many offer low-priced packages and the opportunity to work at the festival for waived admission, as well as on-site camping.<\/p>\n<p>Attending a festival can be positive for Yoga practice, when it provides an opportunity to &#8220;step outside&#8221; the comfort zone, and observe other styles, non-judgmentally.
